Craig David / The Story Goes... (2005)
前作までの2枚に比べると、全体的に柔らかな印象を受けるアルバム。R&Bシンガーの進化がとかくHipHop寄りに向かいがちな昨今の流れからいけば、「逆行」している印象を受けたリスナーも多いようだが、彼の繊細で透明感の高いヴォーカルが一番活かされているのは、むしろ今回の作品のような気がする。
特にキラーチューンとも言える"All The Way"の軽快なビートから、恋の終わりのほろ苦さを優しく歌い上げたミディアムナンバー"Don't love you no more"へと続くアルバム最初の2曲だけを見ても、彼が目指そうとしているヴォーカリストとしての方向性が十分に感じられるはずだ。
その他にも"Johnny","Unbelievable"などは、「クリスタル・ヴォイスのセツナ系」が三度のメシより好きなリスナー（つまりは私ですな）には堪えられないナンバー。1stからのCraigファンには物足りない作品かもしれないが、純粋に美声＆美メロにじっくりと浸りたい方には、うってつけの一枚である。
【追記】"Jonny"のリリック、アルバムの中でも浮いている感じがするなぁと思ってたんですが、よく聴くと「学校でいじめられている少年」の歌ですね、これは。メロディが美しいだけに、そのギャップが不思議な感じです。にしてもこの彼がこの歌を収録した意図は…？

お久しぶりです。お久しぶりすぎて覚えていらっしゃらないかもしれませんね（汗）
メルマガはいつも楽しく読ませていただいてます。
Craig Davidの名前がでてきてたのでメルマガから久々にとんできました。Pepper House、名前は変わってなくても背景変わったり更新度がかわってたりと（笑）ビックリです。
ところでCraigの"Johnny"ですが、Craigが昔Johnnyって子にいじめられてたときのことを書いた曲だそうです。ライブで本人が言ってました。
今頃になってぶっちゃけられたJohnny君の心境はどうなんでしょうね（笑）

Pepper Houseのコンテンツもブログ形式にしてから、随分と更新が楽になりました。やっぱブログは最高です。
しかし"Johnny"がCraig自身の体験だったとは…優しさの中にもイカつさを感じさせる（笑）彼だけに、ちょっと驚きましたね。
