Sheryl Crow / Wildflower (2005)
敢えて誤解を恐れずに言うなら、今作での彼女はRockというジャンルの人間ではない。
実際昔のようなワイルドな音は鳴りを潜め、ゆったりとした、落ち着きのあるスロー～ミディアムが主体の構成。メロディーだけに耳を傾ければ、大衆化と捕らえられなくもない。けれども、メロディアス＝ポップス＝商業化という括りで語るには、あまりに勿体ない作品だ。
何よりもまず、今作ほど彼女の声を「美しく繊細」だと感じたことはない。そしてその透明度の高い歌声の中には、新しい自分を探し出し、そこから湧き上がるイメージをひとつひとつ丁寧に吟味して、曲やリリックへと昇華させている彼女の姿が浮かんでくる。
自らこの作品を「人生をもう一度見つめ直したいリスナーへ捧げる」と語るのは、彼女自身、新しく見つけた自己をリスナーに感じ取ってもらいたい、と考えているからに他ならないだろう。新境地とも言えるこの透明感を第二の自分とするのか、それともこの作品をひとつの節目として、再びRockへとステージを戻すのか。この次の一手に、大きな期待が膨らむ。

今回の作品、最初はちょっと路線変更に戸惑いましたけど、きれいなボーカルとゆったりした音楽にかなりはまりました。
